Games made from natural or recycled materials, tap water, electricity from renewable sources, fabric shoe covers, washable tablecloths, digital communications, washable or ecological diapers, are some of the actions we implement for the management of early childhood services with the aim of reducing environmental impact and spreading sustainability education among children and families.
What the project provides for reducing the impact
To use reusable materials as much as possible, avoiding disposable products, thereby reducing the waste produced every day in the municipal nursery schools of Vimodrone:
- Fabric shoe covers, we avoid using thousands of pairs of disposable shoe covers every year
- Unbreakable, washable cups (no to plastic cups)
- Washable tablecloths (no to paper tablecloths on our tables)
- Bulk products (we reduce plastic packaging for kitchen food as much as possible)
- We communicate with parents digitally using the Kindertap app or via email (no to paper notices and forms)
- Every year in the nurseries where we use washable diapers, 6.5 tonnes of undifferentiated waste are saved, which corresponds to 40,000 diapers.
- Electricity comes from certified renewable sources, thus we avoid CO2 emissions and protect the climate.
- We use tap water, which is good, high-quality, and safe because it is constantly monitored. This way we avoid using expensive and polluting plastic bottles.
- For children’s experiences, we prioritize natural, reused, and unstructured materials that offer a wealth of opportunities, possibilities for learning, and beauty.
